The 718 steel is nickel-based and is a super alloy that has been designed for a range of applications, particularly ones that require high strength in temperature ranges from cryogenic up to 1400°F. Its composition allows for age hardening that lends itself to welding and annealing without spontaneous hardening during the aggressive heating and cooling process.
Chemical Formula
Nickel-Chromium Alloy 50-55%, Chromium 17-21%, Molybdenum trioxide 2.8-3.3%, Titanium .65- 1.15%, Aluminum .2-.8%, Iron balanced
Inventory
718 Stainless Steel Plate, 718 Stainless Steel Sheet, 718 Steel Round Bar
Common Trade Names
718 Stainless, 718 Stainless Steel, Inconel 718
Features
Corrosion Resistance: 718 stainless stands up excellently in a range of atmospheric environments even when exposed to corrosive elements, specifically to seawater.
Heat Resistance: 718 Nickel-Chromium alloy being precipitation hardenable and having high creep-rupture strength works well for high temperatures to about 700°C.
Easy to weld with excellent weldability.
Applications
This alloy exhibits excellent tensile, creep-rupture characteristics, and impact strength which makes it well-suited for a wide variety of industries such as aerospace, chemical processing, gas turbines, nuclear reactors/pumps, and pollution-control machinery.
